Train on the most comprehensive Tui Na courses, in the UK and develop advanced clinical skills in Traditional Chinese Medical massage.

The 1-Year Diploma in Tui Na (Dip. Tui Na) at The City College of Acupuncture provides in-depth training in traditional and modern Tui Na techniques, diagnostic palpation, and clinical application. The programme combines practical hands-on training with supervised clinical experience, allowing students to confidently apply Tui Na treatments with real patients.

Course Overview

This programme is divided into two main parts, allowing students to first develop strong technical foundations and then apply these skills in a clinical setting.

Part 1 – Tui Na Techniques and Clinical Methods

During the first half of the course, students will learn the core principles and techniques of Tui Na, focusing on building practical skills, understanding treatment strategies, and developing diagnostic ability through palpation. This unit covers Tui Na manipulations, body-area routines, and complementary techniques such as cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, orthopaedic tests, and the use of external herbal formulas.

Students will explore treatment approaches for

  • Musculoskeletal issues, sinew and joint conditions

  • Gynaecological and obstetric concerns (including pregnancy massage)

  • Digestive issues, headaches, respiratory and mental health issues

The programme also develops physical strength, stamina, and sensitivity to internal Qi through the study of Shaolin Neigong and various Qi Gong practices, including the Six Healing Sounds, which can be integrated into therapeutic Tui Na sessions to enhance efficacy and patient outcomes.

Topics include:

  • Core Tui Na manipulation techniques

  • Yin style and Yang style Tui Na

  • Body-area treatment routines

  • Palpation and diagnostic techniques

  • Integrated learning of channel pathway theory and diagnosis

  • Treatment planning

  • How to combine acupuncture, moxibustion, gua sha and cupping

  • Clinical application of Tui Na techniques

  • Qi Gong Practice

Students will practise extensively to develop sensitivity, precision, and confidence in applying Tui Na treatments, and will also receive a comprehensive 70-page guide to the channel sinews, providing an in-depth reference for anatomy, pathways, and clinical application based in Nei Jing and practical experience.

Part 2 – Supervised Tui Na Clinical Training

The second part of the programme is dedicated to supervised clinical practice, where students apply the Tui Na techniques and theoretical knowledge learned during the course in a real-world setting. In the Tui Na clinic, students treat members of the public under guidance, integrating reflective practice, diagnostic skills, and manual techniques to address complex disease patterns in Traditional Chinese Medicine. This unit provides a creative and practical opportunity to consolidate learning, develop clinical confidence, and refine professional skills in a supportive, hands-on environment.

Clinical training allows students to:

  • Gain hands-on experience treating real patients

  • Develop clinical reasoning and treatment strategies

  • Improve palpation and manual technique

  • Build confidence in professional clinical practice
