With Zarig and Conny Cooper, pre-recorded lecture by Andrew Nugent-Head.

Firmly rooted in our Chinese Medicine classics, this 5-module programme, as taught by the Association for Traditional Studies, is the most comprehensive CPD course for musculoskeletal issues available to acupuncturists in the UK.

Do you know how to confidently approach a patient with a trapped nerve or a rotator cuff injury from the point of view of Chinese Medicine? Do you know how to effectively assess and treat a patient with tennis elbow or a meniscus tear using acupuncture and bodywork? Do you know how to support an athlete to go back to the gym as quickly as possible after an injury, or how to promote healing after orthopaedic surgery? If you would like to become proficient in these areas and many more, this programme is for you.

The course includes over 40 hours of online video content by Andrew Nugent-Head, where Andrew lays out the foundations of treating musculoskeletal conditions based on his many years of shadowing old doctors in China and assisting them as they treated injuries.

The 5 in-person modules are taught in London by his senior students Conny and Zarig Cooper, and focus on developing the clinical skills necessary for the effective treatment of physical injuries and bringing to life the content from the online lectures.

This exciting course includes: foundations of working with the tendochannels (sinew channels) to resolve orthopaedic injuries; specific focus on common body areas (back, shoulder, knee, elbow, wrist); palpation and quality of touch; relevant needle and hand techniques (sparrowpecking, gathering, spreading, etc); tailoring the treatment to patient types (athlete vs middle-aged vs elderly patient); working with orthopaedic hardware and broken bones; massage and liniments.

At the end of this comprehensive course, participants will be able to effectively treat any orthopaedic condition which commonly presents in clinic – from acute lower back sprain to chronic tendinitis to wear and tear arthritis.

Who can attend?

Qualified acupuncturists or third year students on a BAAB accredited course, who have an interest in treating pain conditions.

Teachers:

The pre-recorded lectures feature Andrew Nugent-Head explaining theories and background of working with orthopaedic conditions.

The in-person days are taught by Conny and Zarig Cooper. Conny and Zarig both attended Andrew’s seminar series in London between 2012 and 2016. They have since been on 7 study trips to the Alternative Clinic in Asheville, USA, to observe the taught material being used in clinical practice. In 2018, they joined Andrew’s teaching team and started assisting at his European seminars. They both teach CPD courses in London and are dedicated to sharing ATS’s teachings of tangible, effective clinical skills with acupuncturists in the UK.

Cost: The cost of the course includes the online video content (normally $900) and the attendance at the 10 in-person days:

The standard cost is £1650 if paid by 15th August 2025, after that date £1750.
